Tyler Mahard

Drums

Tyler is a multi instrumentalist and seasoned rock drummer who began studying percussion at age 9. Highly involved in his school music programs, he has played concert percussion in wind ensembles, drum set in jazz bands, steel drums in the UCONN Steel Pan Ensemble, and was the percussion caption head of his high school marching band.

Over the past six years, Tyler has also drummed for several rock groups of his own, performing at venues across southern New England including the Boston House of Blues, Toad’s Place, and the Webster Theater. While earning his B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of Connecticut, Tyler studied world music with Dr. Robert Stephens and is inspired by a diversity of music on top of his classic rock roots. Tyler feels strongly that his students should have fun during the learning process while being challenged by it.

Tyler currently plays lead guitar, drums, writes music, and does audio engineering for the band Kingfisher. Armed with knowledge of music theory from his percussion instructor and marching band director G. James Miller, Tyler taught himself guitar and bass guitar during high school and has been writing music and recording songs ever since.
